Encounter #136: cinema is a dissolve of (more) white in on white
And it's funny. Yes, DL, I get it: I'm seeing it. Thanks. You're hilarious and beautiful. There's so much whiteness it had to reach the night. --RWK [via d-kaz]

Encounter #135: Wild Whites
Now for a Diva (or three) via Martha:
Even if you don't really like Stevie Nicks, just watch this video. The singing's spontaneous, the white greecian wear is out in full force, the entourage is in place, and the hair's blowin' in the wind--she's just compelled to be a Diva here. Her voice comes through a huge noisy room, through the shitty camcorder, through the internet and it sounds pitch perfect. My affinity for Fleetwood Mac has grown by leaps and bounds in the last year and this is just the latest bit to bolster that snowballing... Her voice hurts, kinda. --RWK

Encounter #134: Sun San Melt Francisco
Just saw this image in this latest BLDGBLOG post, stolen from this flickr user and I had to share it here. The light in California sure is different. I miss that in a different way than I miss the vegetables. --RWK

Genius Marketing #52: Gangster violence and some language.
As said over here: Wherein the fan side of things gets tickled into action. Thank you, Michael Mann. (And the ad people at Universal.) Why? The teaser trailer for his summer tentpole, Public Enemies, is now available for viewing. After last night's waste, I'm happy to be excited about Ho'wood product because I can trust that, unlike that bloated advertisement masquerading as a "movie," this feature will only get better the longer it lingers on screen. Also, it will be gorgeous without a ton of digital paint. It will weigh something, too, I imagine, despite its speed. --RWK

Throw a neg! #2: Watchmen
Fuck "embargoes"—I don't give a shit if I'm never invited again. I was ready to walk out inside five minutes, during the opening credits. However, I stayed. For the full fucking 3 fucking hours of this dummzville parade of bullshit. Zach Snyder can write all the nasty emails he wants: he's the worst kind of middle schooler around this "movie" business. Get a life, dude. Go be rich, fine; great job at that. But I cannot imagine ever enjoying one of your movies. The worst part? It's soooooo not worth getting this upset about. Why am I soooooo upset? Why didn't I buy two tall cans? More later, maybe, in other spaces. --RWK

Design Poach #11: Alice Tully Hall
What: The newly renovated Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center across the park from me. I first saw it at magic hour, it was yet more beautiful. Unfortunately, I did not have a camera.

Genius Marketing #51: Sita sings online
After much copyright deliberation (headaches), Nina Paley has announced that her film, Sita Sings the Blues, will air for public consumption: first, you can stream the entire film at Reel13 (now), and then, second, it will be available in a variety of qualities "free to copy and share" after it airs March 7th at 1045pm as part of Reel 13 on WNET TV. Once I'm done with a few projects, I definitely plan on watching the film and, if moved, writing about its flash fun. --RWK [via sean]

Considerable linear extent in space #6: I like number four
I hate to do this to you, and turn this failed attempt at a column into a Kobe highlight reel all the time, but well, here's some more amazing: via BDL, the top ten Kobe plays so far in the 08-09 season. Number four came in that 61-point game, and it was my favorite move of the night. It remains my favorite of all the feats here. It's just smart. And slick. Those 360s and behind the backs are pretty dope, too, tho... --RWK

Genius Marketing #50: Gallo in a Coppola (not sexual)
FFC has a new movie and that new movie has a new website. CLICK HERE! to see a vlog by FFC himself in his Napa Valley home rapping about the project in a few too-close close-ups and dropping bombs like "Gallo's mad brilliant, son." Or something. I wanna see this thing. It's also got that lady who played sex with Gael and Diego in that Alfonso Cuaron movie. --RWK

What up Ny? Too Cool for School
While my co-host kicks it in BK with dancing women, and refuses to answer my hypothetical text questions (no matter how vulgar), I sit in the Mission, with R, Bill and Cuddles and watch this video over a game of Dominoes. I know this shit is old-ish, and there's that bouncing balls Sony cover by Jose Gonzalez, (think Zach Braff) ... but this opening with the bird coming out of the bushes transition is straight great-ness.
