Effective Marketing #55: Anti

Lars Von Trier is a weirdo. I have never been set on where I stand with him. At certain points in my past I thought he was some kind of genius. Then I hated him. Hard. Now somebody I love thinks he's kinda great, and thinks Dogville in particular is defo great. Dogville was the last movie of his that I saw, and it made me mad. Not quite sure whether I'll see this one, either, but it's an effective trailer nonetheless. Just seems like another exercise, a point to prove, rather than a "real film." But what do I know? I've only seen the trailer... --RWK

What Community? #68: Broken cradle.

light fail
car fail
sign fail
Look at this flickr set for more of the aftermath of the recent riots in Athens following the 12-6-08 shooting of a 15-year old boy. A lot of the graffiti is unknowable for people like who don't read Greek but this dude has translated a lot of the stuff he's taken pictures of around that burnt and beautiful town. Real Greek thugs: stay strong. Remember Jules: "Pigs sleep and root in shit. That's a filthy animal." --RWK

Genius Marketing #12: iPhone DIY

No, it's not an Apple ad. But it kind of works as one since this is the first time I've wanted an iPhone. I mean, I feel like a shill for posting this... but it's pretty tight. It takes some musical know-how to do something like this but it gives a lot of nerds (like me, like Kanye, like the Japanaese who made this) a pretty exciting DIY thrill. Now if only I had an iPhone to begin with... --RWK

What community? #16: A famous Britwit talking about politics and two famous Krauts.

Just started reading The Gay Science this week (it's great) so I thought I'd go ahead and put an old, favorite bit up. --RWK

Encounter #25: Television is evil after all. (Or it is in Mexico when it's called Infarto.)

I don't speak Spanish but I can recognize evil. This is a clip from the Mexican prank show Infarto, and the pranks pulled and produced by these assholes are only bad news bears. Why am I posting this, then, years late to this hateful party scene of evil jokesters and fiendish non-laughs? Cuz I love The Soup and think Joel McHale has perfect timing. (And cuz The Soup came on after The Wire.) Apparently McHale calls this waste of space idiot box trainwreck of a program "the most evil practical-joke show in the world." He's probably right. Although, you know, given that everything looks so staged, it could be the best Brechtian joke ever, maybe, if, well, if it weren't in the business of making people want to die. --RWK
