Encounter #68: Motion picture, it's called.


Sorry again to those who need subtitles. Dig how Fritz Lang says the cinemascope frame was invented for serpents. And the Olympic discus toss: Jerry envisions himself as Odysseus, doesn't he? Is he really, only a stand-in for all the producers who made JLG's picture-making life "hell"? I don't think so. I think there has to be at least some of JLG in Jerry. Makes me think, again, always, during the opening weekend of Funny Games, FUCK YOU, Haneke. You can love cinema and make a movie called Contempt and not hate on your audience: you can make fun of yourself a little instead. Not only is it much more endearing, it's a better way to be in the world. --RWK
